Preliminary Conference Program

Greetings from the National Healthy Start Association

The National Healthy Start Association is thrilled that we will be hosting so many of our members, partners and friends to Washington, DC next month for the organization's 2012 Annual Spring Conference. As always, we aim to provide you with the highest quality of information, innovative workshops, cutting edge research and programs, exemplary speakers and an opportunity to connect and brainstorm with old and new colleagues. We strive to raise the bar every year to ensure you leave DC with a rewarding conference experience.

Coming off of the heels of celebrating 20 years of Healthy Start, this year's conference is focused on strategies to sustain the program for another 20 years and beyond.  As we work to design a blueprint for the future and for our families, we are excited to have friends such as Dr. Fleda Mask Jackson, Ms. Maria Gomez, Ms. Michelle Drayton and others; join us at this year's conference for conversations on moving Healthy Start to the next phase and the next 20 years.

You don't want to miss this year's event. We can't wait to see you on Capitol Hill!

Conference Schedule

The National Healthy Start Association (NHSA) invites you to join us for our 13th Annual Spring Conference on March 11-14, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. The mission of NHSA is to be our nation’s voice in providing leadership and advocacy for health equity, services and interventions that improve birth outcomes and family wellbeing. As part of our mission, NHSA promotes the development of community-based maternal and child health programs, particularly those addressing the issues of infant mortality, low birthweight and racial disparities in perinatal outcomes, through community engagement and grassroots efforts. The 2012 conference promises to educate, motivate, and promote collaboration among our 500+ attendees made up of Healthy Start project directors and staff, health care providers, MCH professionals, social workers, outreach workers, and consumers. This year’s theme, Our Blueprint for the Future: Building Healthy Families, encompasses everything that Healthy Start does across the nation to provide families with the tools they need to build a strong foundation of total health and wellness. This includes embracing fathers or male figures to make positive choices for their families, empowering moms to seek the care they need to ensure a healthy pregnancy, and educating MCH professionals to include both moms and dads in treatment care plans for their children. The 2012 conference will provide attendees with a framework of the fundamental makeup of a healthy family.

Women's History Month

In March, we reflect on the extraordinary women in history who have lived and died trying to ensure equality for all women. These women have pioneered in medical science and fought on the front lines of human rights’ movements. Women have been making history for as long as history has been recorded. Cleopatra VII, born in 69 BC, became the Queen of Egypt at the age of 17, paving the way for women leaders on the world stage.
