The National Healthy Start Association is pleased to announce the Maribeth Badura Memorial Fund in memory of a beloved leader and trailblazer in Healthy Start. Maribeth was the Director of the Division of Healthy Start and Perinatal Services in the Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Originally in HRSA’s Chicago Field Office serving as Nursing Consultant for the Midwest area, Ms. Badura began working with communities applying for the Healthy Start infant mortality reduction demonstration program in April 1991, and served as a project officer for the first communities funded under the Initiative in 1991. In 1993, she relocated to Washington, DC as project officer and became Branch Chief in 1995. In 1998, she became the Acting Director for the MCHB Division of Healthy Start and Perinatal Services and was named as the Director in 2004. Prior to HRSA, Maribeth was worked as a pediatric clinical specialist and nurse practitioner in Illinois at Mercy Hospital; Mount Sinai Hospital; Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and its College of Nursing and the University of Illinois Medical Center. Maribeth Badura was a true nursing and public health visionary, leader, mentor, and champion.

This fund will enable the Association to grant scholarships to individuals interested in pursuing the field of nursing, public health or similar. Recipients will be selected from Healthy Start communities. Help us honor the memory of Maribeth by contributing to the fund today. No amount is too small. Checks can be made payable to: The Maribeth Badura Memorial Fund and mailed to the NHSA office. If you would like to make a contribution via credit card, please use the "donate" button above and indicate MB Fund.
